Jesus and "the gospel" (and the Bible) have been become mascots for all sorts of social and political cultural battles in recent years. "Biblical" this and "biblical" that. When, in fact, many of our social and political issues are not about "the gospel" (i.e., the gospel and [fill in the blank]), nor are they prescribed in the bible (i.e., what's "biblical" or not), nor can they be discerned by conjecturing about what Jesus would do.
Many of our social and political issues are, in fact, matters of Christian prudential judgement.
