This is one way to grow:
Bridging a 475-year-old rift dating back to King Henry VIII's split with Rome, Pope Benedict XVI has made the historic decision to allow disaffected members of the Anglican communion to join the Catholic church. Converts would be allowed to keep many of their distinctive traditions.
The Anglican leadership fatally mismanaged a rift. Among other things mentioned in the article, we will have married Roman Catholic priests finally. Thoughts?
Are the Anglicans taking competing bids? If we promise to reduce time spent in purgatory by a billion years, do you think they would join the PCA?
very interesting article! thanks for posting this.
yeah, married priests, praise god.
My grandma is a 94 year old hardcore Italian Roman Catholic from New York and has thought for years that it's stupid not to let priests marry. NT Wright I think has pointed out before that Ratzinger in the past has published articles questioning priests not being allowed to marry and purgatory. Maybe there's a new wind blowing out of Rome.
What's up Abraham! It was great meeting you last week in Seattle.
I think we can gauge the success of this recent Vatican inclusivist mission by whether or not father hartmann shows up with a wife at the next conference.
nickg, you may have to do more than that...
jeff z, you are the wind beneath my wings.
Matt, apparently there was already a way for married Eastern Orthodox priests to become Catholic. This will open those gates further.
Patrick, the pleasure was mine. I don't think it works for current Catholic priests, but if it can, Hartmann will figure it out.
