Having said all that, portable music is better than no music.
I remember my first walkman. And like one of the article's commenters, I also remember when they added the "change direction" feature. I laughed out loud when the teenaged reviewer pondered how his dad could have considered the walkman "credible technology" It's funny to think that he didn't know before that portable music meant carrying around a boombox with all those D-sized batteries. It's really kind of amazing how far recording/playback technology has come in just 20 years or so.
