My eyes nearly popped out. I’m sitting outside the Dallas airport for the one-hour wait for my ride, inhaling the secondary smoke of those oppressed and prohibited from polluting themselves (and the rest of us) on the plane and in the airport when I saw it. A green Honda pulls up and very urban outfitted young African American dude driving with his t-shirt and blue jeaned Dad in the passenger seat.
To my amazement, only because I harbor stereotypes, that this brutha would be wearing baggy Tommy jeans and a pair of Tims. He wore baggy jeans, yes, but skater shoes and his skateboard was strapped to his carry-on luggage? What?
What’s going on. “What progress,” I thought. True cultural cross-fertilization. I was happy and felt free. By the way, he was the second African American skater-kid I saw in the Dallas airport that day.

Posted by: fly~society at September 22, 2007 10:46 PMim black and juss strated skating in august and i love it. I fall and stuff but its what makes me want to do better. When i c other blakk skateboarders it gives me a feeling that maybe we can appreciate other things that the majority of another race do like skating. because o skating the way i think is different. for example, I use to think that if u dotn wear baggy jeans and have atleast one pair of air force ones or jordans then u aint black. thankfully, thats outta my head now.
