Britney Spears' 16-year-old sister pregnant

NEW YORK (AP) -- Another Spears baby is reportedly on the way -- and it's not Britney's. Jamie Lynn Spears, shown in September, stars in the popular Nickelodeon series "Zoey 101."

Jamie Lynn Spears, the 16-year-old "Zoey 101" star and sister of Britney, told OK! magazine that she's pregnant and that the father is her boyfriend, Casey Aldridge.
"It was a shock for both of us, so unexpected," she said. "I was in complete and total shock and so was he."

Read the sad story here at CNN. I hope they get married.

Sorry fellas, I just couldn't resist this one. Why were they shocked, fellas? Shocked?

Shocked. hah. Shocked.

"I don't know how this could happen..."

I know how this happens; I have four kids and I'd suspect that her and Casey might know as well - if they didn't, now that's a real story.

It's likely they knew how it happens, but didn't know how to prevent it.

Do you think getting married at 16 is the way to go here? Not sure I agree? Unfortunately I read divorce all over that one.

Or maybe they knew how to prevent it, but it just so happens that she was taking a certain type of antiboitic that conflicted with her birth control pill. This is how i got my first of four. We were using other forms of prevention as well.

Let me just say for the record, we were 19, not 16, and we were shocked! And we did get married, and our son is nine and he freakin rocks! and he has three beautiful sisters. So there is hope for stupid teenagers who are "shocked."

For what it's worth, my 16 year old niece is also pregnant, and sad to say I wasn't surprised. Sorry, but when you combine youthful libido, add a strong dose of revealing clothes (make it part of her job if possible), and emphasize sex appeal and attracting a man at all costs, pregnancy is not a surprise, strictly speaking. The fact that all are pretending that it is speaks to how precarious Miss Spears' situation is.

BTW; glad that your story has a happy ending, Nathan.

If she was 16 and the guy was 19 isn't that statutory rape? Last time I checked people go to jail for that....

AB,

I was shocked to see 'shocked.' Surely this was not what Ms. Spears meant to say. Maybe product failure? Co-habitation + pregnancy + marriage = disaster.

Assuming the couple copulated (i.e., did the "wild thang"), I don't see how they can be shocked.

Scared out of their wits, I'll buy. But in 2007 it's inconceivable to me that they didn't realize that even with birth control there's always a chance whenever a male and a female ... uh ... well, you know.

I'm hoping this will be a good lesson to the many other young people out there who are having woo-hoo that they ought to think about the (possible) adult implications of such an adult activity.

P.S. Is it just me or does the girl in that picture look older than 16? I realize it's been quite a while since I was 16, but I don't recall girls looking like that at 16 when I was a lad.

ab,

To continue my first comment, what's 'shocking' is that a 16 year old was co-habiting with a 19 year old. Has parenting changed that much? Didn't either set of parents think that something was wrong with that picture? Isn't pregnancy inevitable in that situation? Isn't this statutory rape or in that same league? In another media source, Jamie said I plan to have the baby and give him/her a 'normal' childhood. What's 'normal' these days?

Guys, yeah, I think this would be considered statutory rape but I doubt they'll press charges. The whole situation is just sad.

Luke, I think you're right to raise the question about parents. Things are just crazy these days.

There's nothing about this kids life that's going to be normal unless they get married get out of southern California, get some moral formation, and cultivate a life of virtue.

Posted by: Anthony at December 20, 2007 08:27 AM

ty, people get divorced regardless of their age at the wedding day. Young couples can make it with the right kind of moral formation and support.

I heard on the radio, that Grandma Spears is writing a "How to" book about raising children...... GOOD EXAMPLE to follow!!!!................................SIKE!!!

I am not a big fan of the elite. It saddens me that I actually know too much about Britany Spears, her children, her "Vanilla Ice" X-husband, etc....

I dont think avoiding the culture is the solution, but boy would it be nice to live outside of the grasp of media and pop culture. I think I am getting dumber the more I live in this society......Watch the movie Idoicracy (starring Luke Wilson)!!!! Funny/scary view of where our society is going.

The only shock is the a religious publisher (excuse me for not calling them christian) Thomas Nelson is going to publish Mama (or Grandma)Spears' book. Anyone notice that there's no Daddy Spears to be found. As in these young women's father?

I don't know if that's the difference, but it's sho'nuff real tho. FFT

Marriages that start under the gun at age 16 probably have a low shelf-life, if I had to guess.

Posted by: scott cunningham at December 26, 2007 03:48 PM

Scott, I believe that what you say is statistically true, but I'd have to guess that the reason so many young marriages fail isn't youth per se, but rather impulsiveness and immaturity. Those are correlated with youth, but obviously don't end with adulthood.

Posted by: Robert Perry at December 26, 2007 04:04 PM

If they are correlated with youth, then one should probably not wish the two get married without knowing a lot of information about the relationship. Just because a guy gets a girl pregnant doesn't mean he is a good match for the girl or vice versa.
