It's been kind'a downhill for female vocalists since Ella. The classiest, more versatile voice most of us will ever hear. Her range and interpretations are amazing.
Posted by anthony at December 17, 2007 09:54 AM | TrackBackYou are right. There's something about her. And, though not nearly as musically gifted, Billie Holiday's voice is always mesmerizing. There have been a few here and there, but on the whole, you're right on.

Posted by: dramaturge at December 17, 2007 12:38 PMwonderful therapy for those who seem to find the need to be stimulated to the point of insanity. I couldnt agree with the above sentement more...."I love Ella". There have been a few others, but can or could do it like Ella. I dont know, maybe Sarah.
Posted by: miles at December 17, 2007 01:07 PMLOVE ELLA...she and Dinah Washington make my heart sing. Not only could these women sing, they carried themselves with such class and confidence that you rarely see in today's female vocalists.
Posted by: Tam at December 17, 2007 04:15 PMYou sure got that right. She's incredible.
Posted by: alice at December 17, 2007 04:22 PMHey Anthony,
Read your article on Resurgence.org. I loved your last sentence which read "what we do know is that women, children, the church, and world are desperate for a generation of men walking in healthy, holistic God-made masculine identity." However, i could not glean from your article what you think a God-made masculine identity is all about. I also wanted to ask you about your use of Scripture regarding Jacob and Esau. Can you really link Jacob's deception with his keenness to stay at home in the tents? If so how? Love to hear your thoughts. I think we need to be careful in our efforts to bring men into the church, not to crreate an unbiblical picture of masculinity..
Posted by: Sam at December 17, 2007 11:36 PMHey, She is incredible in the area of interpretations; I have never heard anyone in her league. Range - There are others with some pretty incredible range but again, they got nothing on Ella when it comes to Interpretations.
