My Comments on Obama Over At Fox News

1_61_obama_wright.jpg

Fellas, you can find it here at Fox News. Here's a quote from the story.

For his part, Obama has said he does not agree with Wright on every issue, religious or political. But that doesn’t sit well with some.

“If Barack Obama has really submitted himself to his church like he’s claimed, why does he have a different expression of faith from his own pastor?” asks Anthony Bradley, theologian and research fellow at the Acton Institute in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Great article.

Black liberation theology truly is dead.

Barrck is a politician who got a lot of folks duped. I just wonder what card Jakes and others will play in this election. Black or Republican.

Anthony,

Please help me understand your quote cited in the article. Exactly why would Obama's political and religious disagreement with his pastor demonstrate a lack of submission to his church? If your blog is any indication, certainly you don't agree with your own church on every religious issue. And to my knowledge, your church does not require that your faith express itself in a particular political ideology. How is your comment not a petty political attack on Obama? While i am neither liberal nor a Democrat, nor do i plan to vote for Obama, i appreciate the fresh and positive (although, i consider his embrace of liberalism naive) face he brings to politics. He still possesses the idealism and spirit of service lost by so many other politicians who have become jaded and consumed by quests for personal power. Moreover, while i don't care that much for his loose religio-political language (which is common to both parties, and as American as apple pie), hopefully his campaign will have the effect of convincing a few evangelicals that matters of politcs belong to adiaphora ("indifferent things").

And if black liberation theology truly is "dead," then what exactly are you and the fellas over at RBA doing? :)

Christopher, I think the point our gracious host is making is that the black liberation theology is central to the life of Obama's church, and what does it say if Obama doesn't hold to this? It's more or less as if Anthony started preaching that Presbyterians should hold to faith plus works and install a "vicar of Christ" as head of the PCA. We would wonder if his theological committments, and his others, actually mean anything to him.

I am NOT accusing Anthony of this, of course. :^)
