College Football Talk

oklahoma looses.jpg (Oklahoma looses to Colorado?)

Fellas, what happened this weekend?

From ESPN:

If Oct. 6 already has been billed as Blockbuster Saturday, perhaps Sept. 29 should go down in history as Spoiler Saturday. Oh, what could have been.

If not for a stunning seven of the top 13 teams in the AP poll suffering a loss this weekend -- five of them to unranked teams -- we would have been preparing ourselves for four undefeated-versus-undefeated showdowns this coming Saturday: Florida-LSU, Oklahoma-Texas, Cincinnati-Rutgers and Ohio State-Purdue.

Here's this week top ten (AP)

1. LSU (33) 5-0 1,593
2. USC (32) 4-0 1,591
3. California 5-0 1,475
4. Ohio State 5-0 1,420
5. Wisconsin 5-0 1,271
6. South Florida 4-0 1,203
7. Boston College 5-0 1,172
8. Kentucky 5-0 1,143
9. Florida 4-1 1,031
10. Oklahoma 4-1 992

LSU, FINALLY is getting the props they deserve as USC wins games in a soft and mediocre conference (nothing like the SEC, the toughest conference in America).

And to top it all off Clemson loss to one of their "thorns in the flesh": Ga Tech. Sigh.

Fellas, what happened?

I think the PAC-10 is better than you ever give them credit for. And, although I'll concede that the SEC is probably the best conference, they're not nearly as good as everyone always gives them credit for.

A few questions I have after this weekend:

Will South Florida be this year's Boise State?

Can we please stop asking if USC is going to be the best college team ever before each season?

Is Bob Stoops the most overrated coach in college football (maybe ever)?

Is it too late for Notre Dame to schedule an NAIA school this year so they can get a win? (And I'm an Irish fan.)

Anthony, now your tickling my ears with sweet SEC talk. I agree with Nick, even though I'm an SEC homer, that the Pac-10 is better, probably twice as good since when Pete Carroll got there. California is a fun team to which and has some amazing speed.

The SEC is as good as people say it is, sorry, just the way it is. Take the BCS since it has started and match the top Non-SEC team agains the SEC champion and you would get a great ball game everytime, no doubt.

Bob Stoops- AMEN Brother AMEN. My dislike for OU goes back to the BCS spot they took from my undefeated Auburn tigers and then they get waxed and loose one of the 5 consecutive BCS games they have tanked.

Say what you will about Bob Stoops, but most coaches would love to say they have an 89-19 record (82-20 adjusted), an NC, and four conference champtionships.
Yes, Auburn should have been in the BCS game against USC, but again, it's not like Stoops made that decision.

And if you want to call Stoops overrated, he has has more NCs (yes, I know it's 1) than a plethora of NCAA coaches who are heralded as greats, the most wins this decade, and he brought a slumping team back to national prominence.

To also correct something, OU has lost 3 BCS bowl games, they have not lost 5 consecutive BCS bowls.

I understand it's "cool" to have conference pride, blah, blah, but it's silly to hate on Stoops because the BCS sucks and the NCAA won't either mandate or eliminate a conference championship game. I mean, hate on Pete Carroll, which is easy in my opinion. Or hate on Notre Dame for not winning a bowl game since the Clinton administration and is still the media's darling. Oh yeah!
