From WPBF:
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A pioneering megachurch pastor and prominent Christian broadcaster has died in Fort Lauderdale.
The Rev. D. James Kennedy died early Wednesday morning at his home due to complications from cardiac arrest in December. The 76-year-old Kennedy had not been seen publicly since then; his retirement was announced on Aug. 26.
Kennedy took the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale from a congregation of 45 in 1959 to a megachurch of nearly 10,000 members today.

Posted by: Anthony at September 5, 2007 01:33 PM:( How sad for us to have lost such an amazing man. How blessed for him to be with our Lord at last.
Posted by: dramaturge at September 5, 2007 01:50 PMWhen one of the great men of God, (I consider Kennedy one of them) go off the scene it always makes me wonder who will step-up.
Posted by: Keith at September 5, 2007 02:52 PMKeith said, "who will step-up" Great question. With him gone and Falwell, I think we're approaching the end of an era.
Posted by: Anthony at September 5, 2007 03:02 PM"End of an Era," we may want to think so, but God seems to rise men up to take these challenges.
Posted by: stelmodad at September 5, 2007 03:42 PMIt certainly does mark the "End of an Era." I heard last week that Jim resigned from the pastorate last week and was glad that he would have more precious time to enjoy life with his loved ones without the pressures of the ministry. What a shock, following upon this first one. I hope that he truly did enjoy the short interim to the utmost in the wonderful company of family and friends.
I hope that, without the limitations of his earthly physical condition, that he is now putting his Arthur Murray dancing skill to use, rejoicing and dancing in the very presence of our Lord and Savior!
Posted by: Cindy Kunsman at September 5, 2007 04:17 PMWow, what a relief such a horrible, hateful person is now worm food. The harm this idiot did to America and Americans is beyond calculation. Falwell, Kennedy...all we can hope is that Robertson and Dobson are on deck. We really need to get back to reality, using reason and common sense instead of superstition and mythology.
