ATLANTA, Georgia (AP) -- Former President Jimmy Carter said Monday his remarks were "careless or misinterpreted" when he said the Bush administration has been the "worst in history" for its impact around the world.Speaking on NBC's "Today," Carter appeared to retreat from a statement he made to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for a Saturday story in which he said: "I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this administration has been the worst in history."
Carter said Monday that when he made the comment, he was responding to a question comparing the Bush administration's foreign policy to that of Richard Nixon
Here's why I'm not upset. Jimmy Carter is arguably the worst President in U.S. history so those comments coming from him would be like the Kansas City Royals saying that the Yankees haven't had any good players in years.

In the words of Thomas Fleming, it's a real shame they no longer teach Greek tragedy in the schools Bush partied his way through, otherwise he would have laid awake at night contemplating the ruin that inevitably follows his kind of hubris.

That said, this isn't like someone with the Royals insulting the Yankees at all. It's like someone from the CUBS (go Cubbies! magic # is., well, never mind) doing the same.
