Clinton: Faith helped her through marriage infidelity

WASHINGTON (CNN) – In response to a question about how she managed the infidelity in her marriage, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-New York, said “I’m not sure I would have gotten through it without my faith.” The White House hopeful answered the question as part of Monday’s Faith and Politics forum at George Washington University moderated by CNN’s Soledad O’Brien.

“I am very grateful that I had a grounding in faith that gave me the courage and the strength to do what I thought was right,” Clinton said. “Regardless of what the world thought. And that’s all one can expect or hope for.”

Sen. Clinton also told the forum audience that she takes her faith seriously and personally, and comes, “from a tradition that is perhaps a little too suspicious of people who wear their faith on their sleeves.”

Ahh, thoughts?

What type of faith, exactly, is she referring to?

As an aside: From reports I've read, Bill would not have been guilty of infidelity with Monica if Hillary had granted him the divorce he'd wanted way back in Arkansas.

I'm just sayin'.

There are honest foxhole and campaign trail conversion stories... unfortunately insincere ones seem to be more common. Living in a culture where its better to fain faith than deny it my, cynical self thinks this is the latter.

Ah yes, the faith of Clinton that we've heard so much about over these last 15 years of being in the national public spotlight. I don't see why the surprise of so many people, hasn't this been talking point ever since Bill ran for president? Oh wait, I forgot, today we just about expect our favorite politician to say whatever he/she has to say to get/stay elected. Seeing how Romney, Obama, and Edwards (I mean his name is Jon Edwards for crying out loud!) have all made their faith explicit, it doesn't surprise me that she has now decided to 'come out of the closet.'

I've been thinking a lot lately about how our culture (and many in the church) use the word "faith." Faith is considered a virtue in our culture, and having abundant faith is to be praised. But Jesus made it clear that faith isn't the point (i.e. mustard seed)-- it's the object of our faith which is what matters. It's distressing to see how Christians can't distinguish between Biblical faith and the culture's version.

I'm with Bill, faith in what?
"Faith" has become the latest buzzword. You don't have to talk about the object of said faith, just have some "faith." "Faith" that gets you through tough times. When you celebrate something, be thankful for your "faith." It's just the latest trendy verbal accessory to wear. I'd be more impressed with her if she'd assigned some object of her "faith." This is just pandering.

What a ploy. Just like Sly Stallone trying to sell the "Christianness" of his latest Rocky movie to the Christian masses, Clinton does the same thing here. I ain't buyin' it!

Agree. Faith in what? It's funny how no one is frank in saying: I'm a Christian, or a Buddhist, or whatever. Do people buy all this?

you know, i am not surprised at all... i dont want to beat the post-modern horse to death but this is the very thing that we have to engage everyday. i am sure that deep in her heart she is very serious about what she believes. and the fact that she would accentuate these things for political gain doesnt surprise me either. this is exactly what i would expect from post modern politics- using her faith as a means to an end and not allowing her faith to be the foundation for issues, campaign, etc. this is nothing new. we just hate it because a liberal woman is running for president. obviously i think she would be a disaster as the president but i cant help but think that there needs to be a little repentance on my end as i evaluate my opinion of her.
