I believe that is Pancho Sanchez.
Posted by: CRM-114 at July 26, 2005 12:48 AMCRM, WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! That is correct. You win. It is Pancho--one of the most gifted conga players around (if not THE most talented one recording today). Honestly, I'm shocked that anyone would get that. How do you know about him?
Posted by: Anthony at July 26, 2005 08:39 AMI love traditional Cuban music and have been a fan of Pancho's for quite a while. He truly is one of the greatest congueros alive today. Met him once in Philadelphia in the late 90's, and he was, unsurprisingly, a very kind, gracious, and humble man. A world treasure.
Posted by: CRM-114 at July 26, 2005 04:44 PMCRM-114, wow (again) you actually got to meet him!! I used to live in Philadelphia and totally miss the latin music scene there. I've been into the music since elementary school. Would love to be conquero myself. Do you play??
Posted by: Anthony at July 27, 2005 02:09 PMI saw pancho and band at Nightfall in chattanooga, like ten years ago! It was muy bien!
Posted by: Kirk at August 2, 2005 05:44 PMthis is the greatest conga player of all time: http://www.congahead.com/Musicians/Meet_Musicians/Hidalgo/hidalgo.html The first time he played with Tito Puente, Tito stopped playing the timbales to watch him play. Get the Conga Kings album. It's awesome:

Congahead.com is a great resource for percussion, descarga.com is another one for music.
