What Do People Think A Blog Is?

I was wondering, as well, why it is that people expect of blogs only what is dealt with exhaustively in terms full-length articles or books. I won't mention her name, but woman accussed me once of being disingenious because I did not develop an idea posted on a blog to her liking (she said that it lacked the full engagement of the things that I longed for and was accused of being a fraud bascially). I wanted to tell the lady, "hey, calm down senora it's a BLOG not a book. You know, like an on-line journal."

Granted, she may have been older (I'm guessing over 60 or so) but I was curious about why some people expect a blog posting to have equivalent content that a full-length book or article would provide?

To me a blog is more than just book reviews, political news and what not. A blog can be a way people communicate what is important in their lives. A blog does not need to be pigeon-holed into something that restricts it. Blogging is about interests from the mundane to the exciting. I blog because I can share myself with others about me and my ideas. Blogs will be around a long time!

it's a blog, that's open to people's comments. they get ticked at you for not devoloping an idea, you get ticked at them for the way they respond to your idea. people think a blog is someone's ideas that they get to respond to. sometimes they will respond negatively, sometimes they'll respond positively. it would be naive to expect such an open forum to garner only intelligent, positive feedback. i think the ignorant blatherings of the self righteous are what make blogs fun!
