Aim Toothpaste: Does Any One Really STILL Use It?

aimtoothpaste.jpg

I was thinking about this the other day and wondered why Aim toothpaste continues to linger. Who actually uses it?

I'm a Colgate guy myself.

Brand isn't a concern to me - I turn the box over and look for the highest amount of flouride so I don't get cavities. So far the winner is Colgate Cavity Protection. No fancy taste, no false "whitening" agents, just pure and simple cavity protection. It has more than double anything else I've seen for about half the price of those "fancy" whitening toothpastes with taste. :)

Posted by: Jeremy at April 4, 2005 11:20 AM

I've never even heard of it

Posted by: greg at April 4, 2005 01:13 PM

I hate Aim because, for some reason, it makes my tongue bleed. I use Colgate Whitening Expressions--Vanilla Flavored. That stuff is amazing. I couldn't care less about the brand, but it tastes really good; I've always hated brushing my teeth because of the awful taste of toothpaste (don't worry, I've always brushed anyway). Now it's actually fun.

Posted by: Vida at April 4, 2005 01:14 PM

Jeremy, I'm the same way. . .I hunt for floride amount as well!

Posted by: Anthony at April 7, 2005 06:15 AM

Greg, REALLY?

Posted by: Anthony at April 7, 2005 06:15 AM

Vida, hmm. . .a bleeding toungue. I wonder if there's some money in that for you to help pay for school? (just a greeedy thought). . .fun? well, make sure to tell your denist (and you Mom) that for sure!!

Posted by: Anthony at April 7, 2005 06:17 AM

Hah! Yeah, that's a good idea. I don't know if gathering evidence for a lawsuit is worth a bleeding tongue, though. We'll have to consider it, though:)

I think it's a tube of Aim I've got in use right now. I use whatever's cheapest, or whatever my dentist gives me for free.

I just want to stand up as the loser in the bunch and say that I do use Aim toothpaste, sometimes. The reason- it's the cheapest crap at Wal-Mart! But I haven't bought Aim recently, because I'm using Colgate.

Posted by: april at April 9, 2005 06:27 PM

Growing up our family was on the lower class end of the social specturm - we used AIM and Pepsodent . These days we switch between who has the best coupon on Crest or Colgate.

Aim is the only toothpaste that i use...i hate colgate and all other toothpastes. i have only ever used aim since i was little and after 19 years of using AIM i have never had a cavity or needed any work done to my teeth.

Kirsten, wow, it's good to know you Aimites exist. I thought they were the lost tribe!! Congrats on the stellar dental history.

Posted by: Anthony at June 10, 2005 09:30 AM

I used Extra Strength Aim years ago, not on basis of cost or referral, but because it made my mouth feel fresher than any other brand. I can't find the Extra Strengh any more, and have been using Colgate Total in obedience to my dentist, but I'm not happy. I'm going back to Aim, I think!

Fluoride is an acute toxin with a rating higher than that of lead. According to "Clinical Toxicology of Commercial products," 5th Edition, 1984, lead is given a toxicity rating of 3 to 4, and Fluoride is rated at 4 (3 = moderately toxic, 4 = very toxic). On December 7, 1992, the new EPA Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for lead was set at 0.015 ppm, with a goal of 0.0ppm. The MCL for fluoride is currently set for 4.0 ppm - that's over 250 times the permissible level of lead.
Fluoride used in water fluoridation is also a toxic waste product -- which means it contains other heavy metals. It is the most bone seeking element known to mankind. The US Public Health Service has stated that fluoride makes the bones more brittle and dental enamel more porous.

AIM TOOTHPASTE IS GREAT.
HAS FLOURIDE, WHICH HELPS PREVENT CAVITIES.
WHITE TOOTHPASTE CAUSES MORE FREQUENT CANKER SORES.
NO CAVITIES WITH AIM.

I used Aim foor my science project. My results were that
Aim cleaned the least coffee and colgate cleaned the
most. I used crest or colgate.

Posted by: A at January 17, 2006 06:50 PM

Aim toothpaste is a great product. I am using it myself and recommend it to my patients with dentinal sensitivity, dry mouth, and high caries rate. What makes this product great?
(1)Mild taste
(2)High fluoride concentration 0.8% (the fluoride treatments you usually get in the dentist office contain 1.23 % of fluoride)
(3)Low-foaming formula
(4)Cost-effectiveness (you certainly get better deal by buying Aim toothpaste with 0.8% of fluoride than any of Crest or Colgate brands which only contain 0.234% of fluoride)
>>>For all antifluoridationists out there, PLEASE read scientific acrticles from well respected journals which publish randomized double-blind conrolled clinical trials on fluoride. Fluoride can be poisonous if taken in high concentrations like anything else (aspirin can kill you too!!!). Toothpaste however, won't kill you! On contrary, if you keep brushing twice a day with fluoridated toothpase and floss on a regular basis, you will keep your pearly-whites happy.
>>>To the guy with bleeding tongue... make sure your diet is ballanced and that you have enough vitamin B and folic acid; also it would be wise to see your family doctor.

I found this board when I googled "Aim Toothpaste". It is the only brand I have ever used because I like the taste. I am 29 now and never had a cavity or any dental problems. The only problem now is that I need a new bottle and I can't find it anywhere. I am so afraid that it is not being sold anymore. Arrg. I hate everything else.

Posted by: Sarah at February 9, 2006 01:48 PM

AIM has 2 types of toothpaste now.

Regualr AIM and Multi-Benefit AIM.

Its the Sorbitol in the toothpaste that us AIM lovers love. This is also found in Closeup. And in some chewing gums. AIM is not accepted by the ADA and I guess that is why its not popular but I love the taste.

Posted by: Chris at March 25, 2006 04:30 AM

I was sent a tube of aim as a promo in 1974, loved the stuff and have used it ever since. it is getting harder to find, but the web will help that

Posted by: jon at July 10, 2006 10:48 PM

Personally I love AIM toothpaste, it's the only kind I've used since I was a kid... I guess that's why I hate how all the other stuff tastes. Yeah, it really is getting harder to find.

Posted by: Christina at July 18, 2006 08:23 AM

Aim is the best. Colgate and Crest give me canker sores and I love the taste of Aim. I have been finding it difficult as of late to buy any. Can anyone tell me where in Atlantic Canada besides the Dollarama (none) I can find some? I have been using Close Up in its place.. just not the same!! :(

I too have used AIM for years after finally getting fed-up with other yucky tasting, foamy brands.
Now it suddenly is disappearing without any warning and I am trying to find a Couple of years supply to hold me over until I either retrain myself, find a replacement, or better yet the manufacturer can re-market and keep producing AIM (even if it costs a wee bit more, it is worth it to me).

Just came across this Aim website forum. I have been a Colgate Winterfresh Gel user for years. For some stupid reason Colgate took the Winterfresh Gel toothpaste off the market this year. To me Colgate Winterfresh Gel was the best tasting toothpaste on the market tasting like Spearmint. Right now I am in search of another great tasting toothpaste and have found that nothing Colgate now produces even comes close to their former Winterfresh Gel toothpaste. Can anyone tell me if Aim has a similar tasting Gel toothpaste that I may like. Right now I am willing to try just about anything.

Posted by: Fred at December 17, 2006 04:47 AM

I started using Aim when I went to college and started shopping for myself, buying the cheapest crap I could. Aim totally surprised me with how great it is though. It has a mild pleasant minty flavor, it doesn't foam up all over the place, it's packaging isn't laden with a bunch of marketing BS, it's just pure simple unpretentious toothpaste that costs less than everything else. I like how I'm not barraged by brilliant smiles in annoying commercials telling me to buy some stupid brand of toothpaste, nope the Aim just sits quietly on the shelf waiting for an appreciative consumer. Hell, I like it so much that I went and searched "aim toothpaste" on google.

I do wonder though, why it doesn't have the ADA badge on it like other toothpastes. Is this because the ADA found Aim to be lacking in some way or is it simply that the manufacturers of Aim don't want to pay the ADA to get its stamp?

Posted by: Matt at January 2, 2007 08:47 AM

Ok, so I checked the ADA website and apparently Aim is ADA approved.

http://www.ada.org/ada/seal/pro-com1.asp?company=Church%20^%20Dwight%20Co.,%20Inc%2E

I wonder why they don't put the stamp on the toothpaste tube?

Posted by: Matt at January 2, 2007 09:07 AM

Yeah, Aim is great. And I allways bought it because it was cheap, but most other toothpaste flavors are so strong they burn the mouth.

Posted by: Phillip at January 17, 2007 05:42 PM

I did an experiment testing how well toothpastes protected and Pepsodent, Aim, and Crest was the best. So, I'd say If you can't find Aim try Pepsodent they are from the same company and they protect equally the same.

I have been using AIM for most of my life (I'm 36) and I love it, its the best! I converted my husband to it when we got married and now my kids use it too. I can't stand the taste of any of the other brands.

Posted by: Leslie at April 24, 2007 09:09 PM

I use Aim and will continue to use it as long as it is available. I have tried other brands but I have not found a brand that I like better than Aim.

What a relief to know that my favorite toothpaste is manufactured in the United States. When brushing your teeth becomes a choice between life and death you know things are getting tough. My motto is Buy Only U. S. Made products.

I have used AIM for 30 + years. I don't use it because it is cheap. I love it so much, I would pay 5 times the retail price for it! I don't think enough people have ever tried it. I never have a problem finding it at Walmart & Target. I occasionally buy it at Harris Teeter.
I googled AIM to make sure it wasn't made in China, since they are now recalling toothpastes made there.

I'm from Europe and my sister lives in US. First time she came back she had toothpaste I've never seen before. It's was Aim. I've asked her husband to give me a try on. I was extremely satisfied. Not of the taste, foam and other “side” effects, but because of the smell in the morning and during the night. The Aim is the only toothpaste which neutralize some kind of food (onion, alcohol , etc.)- It was discovery for me so I asked sister to bring me a couple of pieces next time when she come. I used Colgate before but Aim is the winner!
Even this forum I’ve found when I google to find out what kind of types the Aim offer.
AMAZING TOOTHPASTE!

Posted by: Vlado at July 11, 2007 02:38 PM

Found this forum while I was looking to see if Aim was made in China or not -- glad to see it isn't.

Anyway, I used Aim for a long time when it first came out... Then, for years, I couldn't find it anywhere. Now, I buy it at drugstore.com. I just stock up with 10 tubes since I have to pay for shipping. It's great stuff. I like that it's really non-abrasive. Heck, it's hard to buy just regular toothpaste anymore... They are all "tartar control" or "whitening." I don't need that stuff. Aim tastes the best too and keeps my teeth healthy.

Posted by: KD1964 at July 12, 2007 02:28 PM

I'm another long-time Colgate Winterfresh Gel user. After discontinuing that, Colgate offered no good substitute (a gel without triclosan or whitening abrasives). Crest makes a gel, but I didn't like the taste. Finally settled on Aim for my new toothpaste. It's pretty good. But if Winterfresh Gel ever returns, I'd go back.

Major study (Consumer Report) best buy toothpaste in terms of value & effectiveness rated Aim as #2 behind Ultrabrite. Both these products led any Crest product, leaving all Crest toothpastes well behind the pack. Marketing was all that Crest seemed to have more of.

Has anyone found where AIM is made? I saw it posted earlier that it wasn't made in China, but I haven't been able to find that out on the web anywhere.

My husband always thought I was crazy for using this toothpaste he had never heard of and he refuses to use because of the lack of ADA label on the back. But I know I never had a cavity until I stopped using it a few years ago, so I've gone back to it now. Sometimes I can find it at Target for less than a dollar!

I too, have Googled "Aim Toothpaste" and stumbled upon this interesting website - The Institue. I first used Aim at Marine Corps Recruit Training in Jan 1984 as it was the brand of toothpaste that was issued to recruits at that particular time. Immediately, I fell in love with the taste. Subsequently, I used it for many years and had great dental results. However, I was concerned by the fact that Aim toothpaste was neither approved nor accepted by the American Dental Association (ADA). This was the primarily reason that caused me to stop using Aim. Coincidently, I recently discovered that Aim has been accepted by ADA. In fact, I went to a military commissary just this past weekend (11/4/2007) and, to my delight, saw the ADA seal on the box (and on the tube itself). I'm also happy to report that Aim is being distributed by Church & Dwight Co., Inc., Princeton, NJ 08543 U.S.A. I also read that article from Consumer Report in 2006, which rated Aim in second place behind UltraBrite - UltraBrite narrowly edged Aim in the "polishing" category - the caveat: UltraBrite could also be more abrasive to your tooth enamel. Hence, people with sensitive teeth should be cautioned in using a more abrasive toothpaste. Additionally, be advised that UltraBrite is not made in the U.S.A. - it's actually made in Mexico, as depicted on the box. UltraBrite also does not possess the ADA seal of acceptance. In UltraBrite's defense, I would like to point out that I've used UltraBrite in the past and experienced great results. As a matter of fact, I still use it periodically (never got the UltraBrite T-shirt, however). A 6.0 oz tube of Aim Toothpaste at the commissary is $0.50 versus $0.88 for UltraBrite. It all comes down to the individual consumer's likes and dislikes. I believe both toothpastes are relatively and comparatively excellent products.

Posted by: Anthony at November 5, 2007 08:46 PM

I use aim toothpaste. They are all the same I guess, why give the big guy more money when you can get the same cleaning for less and help out the smaller company.

Posted by: Thuy at November 25, 2007 11:00 PM

I am a proud AIM user. I've used it my entire life (26 years now). My mother always said that it was the only toothpaste and both my sister and I agreed on, so she used it. I've also never had any cavities or required any dental work. However, the Tartar control AIM leaves a bad aftertaste. First time any AIM has done that. I was Googling "Aim toothpaste" to complain to the company, and that's how I found this site.

Posted by: Scott at November 26, 2007 12:31 PM

Anthony...sorry for the late response - I have not visited this site since posting my comments. At any rate, I was googling "Aim Toothpaste" to validate the ADA seal.

Posted by: Ray at November 26, 2007 01:14 PM

So, have you found any recently... but not the minty...ultra-mint...etc?

I search for the original, mild, version, that has nothing about mint on the tube. Can you help?

Posted by: Tim at November 30, 2007 01:35 PM

About the mint problem. If you do not like mint and have passed up AIM for its "Fresh Mint" statement on the label, then try it. It does not taste like peppermint or spearmint to me. I am using it and find the taste tolerable. By the way don't swallow it.

My wife & I have been using Aim as long as we can remember. Perfect teeth at 45 years old. The last place here in Canada I could find it was WalMart. Now it seems to have disappeared completely. I'm going nuts! The pastes foam up too much and our mouths peel later in the day. Colgate gel doesn't come close. I emailed the company but getting no answer. I would pay anything for my Aim back. This is one reason why Canadians shop in the USA. Next time I'm in Minnesota I'm buying a case of it !!

Posted by: Mark at December 8, 2007 12:27 PM

I was lucky enough to have a friend of mine visit the states the other week and got them to bring back a tube of Aim. One week now since off Colgate Gel and I'm happy to say no more peeling skin around my mouth. I'm afraid we won't be able to get to the states until March and this one tube isn't going to last that long.

Posted by: Mark at January 2, 2008 08:21 PM

I use Aim Toothpaste because it is the least expansive brand at Wal-Mart. It has a good taste and texture, not abrasive and contains fluoride as well. My wife came home with a tube of Crest yesterday and I asked why she bought it. She had a dollar off coupon which brought the price down to almost $2. The same size tube of Aim was 88 cents. Who got the better deal??

Posted by: Mark at January 6, 2008 09:36 AM

IT'S BACK !! I spoke with the company from Southern Ontario and they informed us that all Wal-Marts in Ontario carry Aim toothpaste. I checked today and lo and behold it returned. It's been about 2 months without our Aim. This is my last post. POWER TO THE AIMITES !!

We both DESPISE mint of any type and usually stock up on AIM for fear that they will stop making it since it is so cheap and the marketing for it is non-existent. Lately, we have noticed that all of the boxes mention something about "fresh mint", etc. and we are in a panic!! Why did they have to change our original AIM? Does anyone know where we can find the original kind that does not have mint on the labeling???

Posted by: Angie at April 2, 2008 04:33 PM

It really isn't the toothpaste that prevents you from getting cavities. You can just use water on the toothbrush and floss to get the plaque and junk off of your teeth. The plaque left on your teeth is what causes the cavities. The toothpaste helps get the stains off and it does make your mouth smell and taste better, but it's really all about the placement of the toothbrush on your tooth that gets the plaque off, not the toothpaste. Just a bit of info I learned working 24 years in a dental office, if you are interested. If not, well, I just gave it anyway.
